Where can photography take you?

Chances are, you want to be a photographer. With a Raffles degree in photography, you could make that happen – whether it’s working in advertising, commercial, editorial or general photography. Freelance work is very common, but you could also join an existing company, or work your way towards starting your own business.

A photography course can lead you down other career paths as well, such as:

Photographic artist
Photography lab technician
Digital image specialist
Photographic printer
Technical photographer
Videographer
Commercial retoucher
Artist
Graphic designer
Marketer

What do employers look for in a photography graduate?

The photography field is largely made up of freelancers. You’ll need technical skills across different types of photography, and artistic vision – your own unique style and perspective. This type of work can be exciting and rewarding, but as your own boss you’ll also need excellent business and communication skills to liaise with your clients and attract new ones.

… a photography internship or professional experience

One of the best things about doing a bachelor’s degree at Raffles is the real-world experience you get. You’ll intern with industry professionals, where you’ll be able to apply your practical skills and talents, strengthen your portfolio, and make your first industry contacts.

All your teachers are also professional photographers and printmakers, and will set you to task on a variety of real-world briefs, so you’ll get industry insight and exposure right from the get-go.

My Experience

"My favourite part about studying at Raffles College, is being able to collaborate with various students from other faculties. As an aspiring Fashion Photographer, having the opportunity to collaborate with fashion design and fashion marketing students has not only improved my professional work ethics but has also allowed me to gain knowledge from their point of view. Another aspect that I love about Raffles is the tight knit community that we have. In some ways it almost feels like a family. When I first visited Raffles for my initial interview to apply in 2013, I immediately felt very welcomed, the students and staff supported me and my experience and have continued to do."
