Subject Description

Students in this subject will develop the skills required to create and develop characters suitable for film, animation and games. Students will learn how to design dramatically and mechanically appropriate characters.


With the huge advances in the digital media an important component of this subject is to expose the student to the technical skills required to deal with not only digital painting, but also the new and powerful technology behind Digital Sculpting Software.


Students will be encouraged to develop their creative, practical and technical capabilities to manage major or minor jobs related to studio work, freelance or self-generated projects.


Students will learn how to approach Character Design with a creative, relevant and disciplined mind.

 

Learning outcomes

  1. Design characters for a range of outcomes.

  2. Create appropriate concept art promoting various design options.

  3. Create model sheets and/or base meshes for 2D and 3D characters.

  4. Sculpt and Paint a Character Design

  5. Rig and animate a character for an animation and game environment.

  6. Light and render a design.
