Subject Description

The purpose of this module is to research, understand and analyse the historical, cultural, social and economic factors that have influenced the development of design in the 20th century.

 

Learning outcomes or Competencies

On successful completion of this unit, learners will be able to:

  1. Research and analyse design texts and images from the 20th century.

  2. Understand the historical, cultural, social and economic factors that have influenced modern design.

  3. Present organise and communicate information about design movements and their impact on design.

  4. Identify individual designers from the 20th century and analyse their work.

Policy

Attendance: When a student's attendance falls below 80% without adequate explanation, their final mark will be automatically limited to, at best, a Pass.


Late submission: All work submitted after the submission deadline will be limited to a maximum of 50% and will not be accepted after the end of the study period unless special circumstances apply.
