Subject Description

This subject enables students to broaden their knowledge of garment design and production through the use of stretch fabrics and appropriate industry technologies.



  • Research and develop design concepts suitable for stretch wear

  • Design garments and/or ranges specific to stretch fabrics

  • Produce and present design documentation

  • Adapt pattern/s for use with stretch fabric

  • Make manual pattern/s for stretch fabrics

  • Use specialized machinery for stretch wear

  • Create stretch garment/s in response to a design brief

  • Experimentation with stretch wear construction processes


Learning outcomes or Competencies

At the end of this course students should be able to:

  1. Identify and use stretch fabrics for the design and creation of garments

  2. Research and develop design concepts suitable for stretch wear

  3. Design garments and develop ranges specifically for stretch fabrics

  4. Create patterns for stretch garments to industry standards

  5. Digitize, file and print patterns for stretch wear

  6. Use specialized machinery to create stretch garments

  7. Document the design and production processes

  8. Present garments and documentation to industry standards

Attendance: When a student's attendance falls below 80% without adequate explanation, their final mark will be automatically limited to, at best, a Pass.

Late submission: All work submitted after the submission deadline will be limited to a maximum of 50% and will not be accepted after the end of the study period unless special circumstances apply.
