Subject Description

This subject builds on student’s previous knowledge of design, patternmaking and garment construction, and develops a firm base for further studies in the fashion design area. Manual pattern grading adds an essential skill to inform the production processes, while Gerber digitizing introduces current technologically assisted processes.

  • Research and interpret current fashion trends

  • Alter design features on basic styles to create new designs

  • Create manual pattern/s for basic garments

  • Grade patterns for basic garments

  • Digitize patterns

  • Explore garment making techniques and produce samples

  • Use advanced garment making techniques to produce garments

  • Document processes

 

Learning outcomes or Competencies

At the end of this subject students should be able to:

  1. Research and interpret current fashion trends

  2. Alter design features on basic styles to create new designs

  3. Create patterns for basic styles using manual patternmaking techniques

  4. Manually grade basic patterns

  5. Digitize, file and print patterns using current technology

  6. Explore garment making techniques and produce samples

  7. Use sampled garment making techniques to produce garments

  8. Document the design and production processes

  9. Present garments and documentation

Policy

Attendance: When a student's attendance falls below 80% without adequate explanation, their final mark will be automatically limited to, at best, a Pass.


Late submission: All work submitted after the submission deadline will be limited to a maximum of 50% and will not be accepted after the end of the study period unless special circumstances apply.
