Subject Description

The aim of this subject is to provide students with the skills and techniques for producing clear and efficient visual translations of complex data and information, communicated through a range of media.

 

Content

This subject will require students to take a systems based approach to the interpretation and representation of information and data. Working across a range of media including print (eg: posters, signage, advertising and publications) and digital media (eg: websites, mobile apps, interactive touch screens and video/screen displays and projections). Students will tackle the often complex and difficult task of presenting data such as figures and lists, directional information and maps, wayfinding systems, exhibition detailing using a conceptual approach.

 

Learning outcomes

1. Understand, research and document the role of visual systems for communicating large amounts of data

2. Interpret and communicate complex or large amounts of data visually

3. Take a sophisticated system based approach to producing visual continuity when producing a series of design outcomes

4. Implement appropriate and functional graphic solutions across multiple levels of interaction, through a variety of print and digital media

5. Work collaboratively to realise design outcomes that extend beyond print based solutions

Students will be required to create an exhibition brand and extend that brand through a clear and continuous visual system. Outcomes will include an audience journey and sample exhibition furniture. The system will incorporate spatial, physical, signage (internal and external), marketing and digital design outcomes and will be responsive to a determined strategy.
