Subject Description

The aim of Graphic Design and Social Awareness is to involve students in examining the history of graphic design and propaganda and the current role of graphic design in society. Students will explore the potential of visual communication to make a positive and relevant contribution to our day-to-day lives.

 

Content

In Graphic Design and Social Awareness students will critically assess the role of graphic design in the context of the wider community. It explores the responsibilities and the positive impact graphic designers can make in a society through the visual communication of important political messages. Environmental issues in regards to graphic design production will also be addressed.

 

Learning outcomes

1. Use graphic design skills to make a positive contribution to society

2. Understand and investigate complex issues that may exist when producing graphic designs

3. Make choices based on ethical consideration when answering a design brief

4. Educate both the general public and potential clients regarding ethical and

social issues and concerns involved in graphic design
