Subject Description

The purpose of this module is to introduce students to the methods of designing commercial, public Interior spaces, with attention to safety, access, ergonomic needs and environmental constraints.

 

Content

  • Introduction to  subject and overview program of study

  • Research for Public Space Design

  • Introduction to Kindergartens/Child care centres design – Development & Presentations

  • Introduction to Restaurant / Bar design – Development & Presentations

 

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this subject, learners will be able to:

1. Generate ideas and develop concepts for design brief

2. Research, evaluate and document information relevant to design brief requirements

3. Present design proposal for approval and critique

4. Analyse commercial client briefs and identify user needs and requirements

5. Design space allocation using knowledge of ergonomics, circulation patterns and architectural details

6. Produce required design documents
