Subject Description

This subject will familiarise students with the art of ‘the moving image’, including film, television, 3D games and animation. Students will receive a broad overview of both the industry and the art form. They will study its history and investigate a wide variety of genre, styles and media. They will learn the ‘language’ of the moving image, and begin to learn how to critique it.

 

Learning outcomes or Competencies

1) Discuss examples of the moving image in relation to the historical, cultural and artistic forces which shape their production and consumption

2) Use appropriate terms to critique examples of the moving image

3) Discuss how technology has affected the art of the moving image

4) Discuss the interrelationships between aspects of the moving image
