Do I need advanced computer skills to apply?
Some students come with computer skills, others don’t. Our Graphic Design program is designed to cater to all students. Over time, everyone will achieve the necessary skills - be ready to face their work lives with skills and confidence.
Will I need my own computer to do this course?
Over time you might consider having your own computer at home or a portable laptop for your own convenience. We have digital labs equipped with the latest programs and computers to help you in your work through the course.
What sort of computer software is used in
Graphic Design?
The most common programs that Graphic Design students use are ‘Adobe Creative Suite’ - Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign (what’s used in the industry currently). We also provide you Web and PC based programs.
Do I have to be good at drawing to pursue
Graphic Design?
We don’t expect you to be to be a Michelangelo.
We see drawing as a powerful tool, a tool in conveying an idea with confidence and clarity. Our subjects will provide you fundamental skills to develop your drawing skills.
What are my job prospects in Graphic Design?
Graphic Design is a growing field with plenty of
opportunities. We pride ourselves on the high
success rate of our students finding jobs once they finish at Raffles. This success comes from Raffles offering relevant subjects and the confidence shown by our students in the real world.
Will I have high earnings potential doing
Graphic Design?
The good news is that your earning potential is determined solely by your talent, determination and passion. Generally a graduate will earn up to $35,000 pa in their very first job. But depending on the quality of your creative work and your dedication, this could increase over your career to a salary of $200,000
or more.
I want to study Graphic Design, but I don’t have
a portfolio yet!
No worries. We have design certificate courses that can help you bridge that gap. You could complete our short term Cert II / Cert IV courses and then take up a degree.)
Is all work the done on the computer - would
this course restrict my hands-on approach?
As they say, the computer is only a tool, the
computer provides all students the necessary skills
to be industry ready. Raffles (Graphic Design) is all about the student exploring numerous mediums and projects with the view of communicating an idea creatively, whether it’s through Graffiti style, Painting, Drawing - even the computer!
What’s the ratio between theory and
practical classes?
Your subjects can vary from term to term.
There maybe times where it’s all practical work, or a mixture of both practical and theory. Ideally it’s one practical and theoretical subject working together.
What’s the workload like – can I manage it?
Wherever you go, you will always need to submit something. Yes, you’ll find it manageable. The magic formula that seems to have worked for our students is - working on projects regularly, allowing the creative process to unfold, and reducing the last minute madness. Learning about time management and accountability goes a long way in field of Graphic Design.
