Design Management
Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Design Management

Design management refers to an approach whereby organisations make design-relevant decisions in a market and customer-oriented way as well as optimising design-relevant processes. It is a long-continuous comprehensive activity on all levels of business performance.

Design management acts in the interface of management and design and functions as link between the platforms of technology, design, design thinking, management and marketing at internal and external interfaces of the enterprise.

To study to work in design management, there are two approaches: design and commerce. At Raffles College we offer both. If you are interested in working for a large organisation and liaising with consultant designers or even an internal design department, then you can do design management within our Bachelor of Commerce. Or, if you are more design-inclined, then you can also choose this major from our Bachelor of Design. You decide.

Careers

A degree in Design Management prepares people for careers in design research, design management, integrative design practice, etc. Graduates from the design management program can go into various retail sectors of the fashion and textile industries as design or retail managers, buyers, stylists and merchandisers. In most cases, design managers manage the design process on a project, from enquiry through to submission of the bid, and thereafter the management of all design related project issues until project completion and beyond.

Graduate James Lee started his own successful studio and design company after completing his Degree with a major in photography. James says "Although it's early days, I'm having a great career thanks to the firm foundation given to me at Raffles. I loved the teachers and the real care and concern I received. The more I put in, the more they put in. I really appreciated small classes and individual attention as developing a style takes crafting from the teacher's side."
