Multimedia

Multimedia courses offer a great foundation if you're interested in the more technical aspects of design. You’ll graduate with a VETAB Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma under the Australian Qualifications Framework, all nationally recognised qualifications which can be a great stepping-stone to a degree.

In an area where change is rapid, this course takes a three-stage approach. First it concentrates on those things like aesthetics and useability that are independent of technology. The aim is to equip students with skills that can be used regardless of the technology. The second stage is to make sure graduates have sufficient skills for entry level jobs in the contemporary workplace. In the final stage of the course students are given experience in project management and marketing of more complex multimedia design projects thus providing skills for supervisory level jobs.

Course Outline

The total course package comprises 3 courses for a total course length of 2 years (4 semesters):

  • Certificate IV in Multimedia 058008B /  CUF40801
  • Diploma of Multimedia 058007C / CUF50701
  • Advanced Diploma of Multimedia 058006D/ CUF60501

Semester 1

Certificate IV in Multimedia - a practical and valuable foundation program which introduces you to the various aspects of multimedia.

The purpose of this course is to provide a general introduction to digital media. It introduces students to the basic theory, technology, techniques, tools and basic outcomes. It concentrates on fundamental principles, and as well as contemporary practice. The aim is to make students sufficiently skilled, yet adaptable as technology changes. The course looks at both content creation e.g. 3D, animation and digital video and integration via interactive media like the web.

Students will learn to use their skills and knowledge to;

  • Solve problems in a wide variety of contexts within the digital media area, (at times in depth)
  • Identify, analyse and evaluate information related to a digital media project
  • Create output to specified quality standards
  • Take limited responsibility for others

Semester 2

Diploma of Multimedia - a practical program to provide basic principles, technical skills and theories used in multimedia. In this course you will consolidate your knowledge and skills in many aspects of multimedia.

The purpose of this course is to provide both a broad and comprehensive approach to digital media. It introduces students to the relevant theory, technology, techniques and tools, and emphasises outcomes.

In an area where change is rapid the course takes a two-pronged approach. First it concentrates on those things like aesthetics and useability that are independent of technology. The aim is to equip students with skills that can be used regardless of the technology. The second prong is to make sure graduates have sufficient skills for entry-level jobs in the contemporary workplace.

The course covers both content creation e.g. 3D, animation and digital video and integration via interactive media like the web.

The Diploma course teaches students how to, in the multimedia area:

  • Apply knowledge from a broad theoretical base, in some cases to a substantial depth
  • Plan actions for themselves and others
  • Evaluate information
  • Use appropriate skills and techniques
  • Analyse and apply judgement to technical and creative problems.

Semesters 3 & 4

Advanced Diploma of Multimedia - an advanced knowledge and skills development program for effective implementation and management of multimedia environments.

The purpose of this course is to provide a comprehensive approach to digital media and the management of digital media projects. It introduces students to the tools and technologies as well as the development of specific design project outcomes.

In an area where change is rapid the course takes a three-stage approach. First it concentrates on those things like, aesthetics and useability that are independent of technology.

The course teaches students how to, in the digital media area:

  • Apply specialised knowledge and skill, in some cases to a substantial depth.
  • Analyse, diagnose, design and execute judgement across a broad range of technical and management functions

David Irawan is working towards a career in interior design. "I heard about Raffles through an agent in Indonesia. I wanted to further my studies with a course in interior design as there are great job opportunities in Indonesia's local interior design industry. I'm discovering more about where my creative competence lies and what I'm really capable of, now that I'm studying interior design here."
