Saturday 5 September 2009 (10am – 2pm) This year’s Raffles College open day was a big success! September 5 saw a great turn-out of teenagers and parents who were interested in the College and thoroughly entertained by our past and present students. Hollywood comes to town for Raffles Open DayWith visual communication courses in focus, parents and their teenagers were able to watch and take part in three different photo shoots by Raffles College students. Inspired by old Hollywood glamour, the students emulated Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, characters from The Wizard of Oz and Marilyn Monroe in The Seven Year Itch. Those who attended the Open Day were able to ‘play’ in the film studio where special effects were captured using a blue screen, and the new multimedia lab was also available for anyone to have a go at 2D and 3D animation. This is what our games design students get to do every day! The College’s Graduation Fashion Show was viewed on TV and many other student works were also displayed. The Parent and Student Information Session provided news on all the latest developments at Raffles including information about our very popular Commerce courses. Raffles College student, Chloe Ferres, of Lane Cove, was on hand to talk to prospective students at the Open Day. Chloe recently featured in the Sun Herald due to her success in the 2009 Sydney Morning Herald Shoot the Chef Competition and earlier this year in the Ilford Tertiary Students Photographic Competition when she won a first and second place. Her winning works were published in Ilford Images magazine for photography teachers. Chloe is about to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts (Visual Communication) majoring in photography. She says she has loved her studies at Raffles College. “It’s been lots of fun. It’s such a great learning environment, with small classes, and you get lots of one-on-one time with the teachers, so they pass on a vast amount of knowledge to you,” Chloe says.

Michelle Johnson, Mishka Boutique New Zealand says: “Raffles provided me the option to study fashion marketing in an open learning environment. The course was designed to broaden ideas about the industry and also give an opportunity to relay what was learnt on a practical level. One of the significant advantages of the course was being taught by industry professionals who gave invaluable insight into the fashion world and business environment. The highlight of the course was interacting with various design students and going on a variety of excursions that defined my career direction and laid the groundwork in achieving success in the industry. Through Raffles Program Director, Robert De Giovanni I was able to secure industry work experience at Prada Australia in their PR & Advertising team which later developed into a coordinator role following my degree completion. This year I am in the process of launching a premier online fashion boutique in New Zealand stocking luxury Australian and International labels – something I never thought possible without the support and knowledge learned at Raffles and the industry contacts passed on by Robert.”
