Overview

The Master of Commerce is a professional postgraduate qualification for industry professionals, people wanting to upgrade their qualifications, or graduates coming directly from bachelor degree programs who want to get a head start into a career.

Raffles College is the first private higher education provider in Australia to offer its own Master of Commerce.

The Master of Commerce includes the following qualifications as exit points:

  • Graduate Certificate in Commerce (1 semester)
  • Graduate Diploma of Commerce (2 semesters)

The following majors are available:

  • Design Management
  • Finance
  • Hospitality
  • Management
  • Marketing
  • Tourism

Objectives

We see the key objectives of the Master of Commerce to:

  • Apply advanced knowledge and skills in business and management practice to the level of master practitioner.
  • Develop and use critical thinking skills to assess advanced and complex business-related problems, and develop advanced rational, appropriate solutions that have real world relevance.
  • Understand the theoretical underpinnings and practical implications of critical reflection and strategic decision making.
  • Defend and conduct research in specific business situations and to use the data gathered to inform decision-making.
  • Examine and evaluate underlying assumptions, symptoms and environmental influences on given situations.
  • Identify and evaluate problems and develop solutions appropriate to the situation using critical and reflective thinking.
  • Demonstrate cultural intelligence
  • Apply lifelong learning skills

There are 3 generic types of subjects:

The Master of Commerce is a 3-semester program that can be completed in accelatered or part-time modes. Course Outline & Subject Descriptions (PDF)

Assessment and Delivery

Duration and Delivery mode

The program may be delivered in full time and/or part time modes allowing students complete flexibility in the management of their study. Class times are after hours, specifically to suit both industry professionals and recent graduates who are working in the industry.

All subjects are one semester in length. The normal program duration is one and a half years full time or 3 years part time.

Program components are assessed on a continuous basis with a combination of methods including:

  • Case studies
  • Essays
  • Reflective journals
  • Reports
  • Development and implementation of design briefs
  • Seminar papers and presentation
  • Research projects
  • Peer presentations
  • Simulated projects

Graduate Profile

After completing the Master of Commerce, we believe you will be able to:

  • Develop your own businesses.
  • Apply the tools used to analyse both domestic and international business environments, and use the data as critical input into strategic decision making focused on business growth, competitive positioning, and the creation of new businesses.
  • Apply strategic decision-making skills to the development of advanced business/commercial solutions.
  • Work independently or in teams.
  • Understand ethical issues and corporate social responsibility
  • Analyse risk for existing companies considering entering new markets, or for new companies, and be able to make coherent, rational recommendations in terms of risk mitigation.
  • Utilise your knowledge and skills to add value to company strategic thinking, or to build new businesses.

Apply for a scholarship to study a design bachelor degree of your choice. Australian and International scholarships are available to all students currently in Year 12.
