Compose . Colour . Animate
Fantastical monsters crash through skyscrapers, otherworldly superheroes dash between cars swerving out of the way, a princess flies out of her tower carrying a surprised prince over a vast landscape of mountains and magical forests, and the city you live in morphs into a cartoon bursting with bright colours and funky graphics. Imagination is the limit in animation; anything we dream up can be created if we use the right tools and skills.
With a Raffles animation course, you’ll learn how to bring stories to life like the greats of Disney, Miyazaki and Pixar...
What will you learn?
Animation is an evolving field. At Raffles, you’ll learn techniques developed by the masters of traditional animation and you’ll put them into practise using the very latest digital tools.
You’ll have room to experiment with methods tried and tested as well as explore new techniques that are still being developed and perfected. Whether it’s a movie, a game or a projection mapping piece, 2D and 3D animation is sure to have an essential role to play in it.
it’s for you if...
You’re a dreamer, a doodler, an animated film fanatic, or a skilled artist who’s always been fascinated by the leap from still to motion.
The animation industry is one of the most exciting and fastest growing industries in the world; so if you have a creative flair and a curious mind, you will enjoy the adventure that this course will take you on.
Working in small groups will teach you real-world skills, like how to work quickly and competently as part of a production team. Our teachers work in the industry, so you will benefit from their experience and first-hand knowledge of the workplace in the animation realm.
You will use the latest animation software, in an environment purpose-built to nurture your creativity. You’ll also learn higher-level skills that you can transfer across media and as the technology develops.
We partner with big names in the industry, who like to pick their newest recruits from within our Digital Media department. You’ll join a cohort of students who are regularly offered internships and placement in some of Australia’s top digital media studios.

“Studying at Raffles helped me to build upon skills that I’d already started developing and encouraged me to learn new ones that I had previously thought were out of my league. For example, despite my feelings of inadequacy when it came to digital painting, I was encouraged and challenged by my lecturers concerned with that subject to step out of my comfort zone and learn something new. There were some trying times when I would be up late at night finishing assignments and coming in the next day wishing I’d had more sleep but it all paid off in the end.”
“Raffles has given me the confidence in my skills and pushes me to improve myself.”
“Raffles has provided a close-knit and personal teaching experience that has allowed me to really feel at home with both the teachers and students I work with. Being in an environment with creatives that practice and work in the animation industry is super rewarding, both for inspiration and motivation. Having good relations with teachers and students has really helped take the first few steps into the industry and make connections. The Animation course has helped me hone my skills as an animator, as well as given me insight into the various paths I can take for jobs and what I would prefer to specialize in for my career, which has been super helpful in relieving the stress of spending time with trial and error in the workplace.”
